Dr. Shuang (Carrie) Chang, Esq.

Over 10 years of research experience; former U.S. patent examiner and Am Law 200 associate; bridging science and law, eastern and western

Dr. Chang is a registered patent attorney. She focuses her practice on intellectual property law, including trademark registration and litigation, and patent procurement, with an emphasis on the life sciences, including products and inventions in the fields of biotechnology, therapeutic antibodies, immunology, small molecule pharmaceuticals and biologics, biochemistry, medicinal and pharmaceutical chemistry, medical devices, and agriculture.

Dr. Chang’s experience in patent practice encompasses prosecution, litigation, reissue and reexamination, post-grant proceedings, USITC 337 investigation, licensing, due diligence, freedom to operate analysis, client counseling and portfolio strategy for companies, universities and research institutions both in the U.S. and in China. She is experienced in all aspects of patent enforcement, including pre-litigation analysis, preparation of complaint, claim construction analysis, fact and expert discovery, depositions, expert reports, motions and briefs, oral arguments, as well as settlement negotiations.

Prior to law school, Dr. Chang conducted her doctoral training at Washington University School of Medicine and postdoctoral fellowship at Emory University School of Medicine. She has published several first authored research manuscripts in high impact scientific journals, including Nature Chemical Biology. She has received numerous national and international scientific research awards and presented at several international scientific meetings. Her research involved mammalian and plant molecular biology, drug discovery, chemical biology, and neuronal stem cell biology. Dr. Chang also worked as a patent agent with Ge Cheng & Co. in Beijing, China as well as a Patent Examiner at the United States Patent and Trademark Office. Upon graduation from law school, she was recruited as a patent attorney by AM200 international law firm MORRIS, MANNING & MARTIN, LLP.
